Instructions and Forms for Admission to the Sport Management Professional Phase
Professional Phase
The program has a limited number of “seats” available in the professional
phase each year and will accept only the most qualified applicants.
The following list of courses represents the
professional phase courses for the BS in Sport Management degree:

The following specific “entry requirements” will be required of students
seeking admission to the professional program.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
PREREQUISITES

EDSM
(pre-professional phase) student with the completion of a
minimum of 45 credit hours of degree plan coursework, 30 of which
must be University Core Curriculum requirements, with a minimum of 12
hours at Texas A&M University.

Successful completion of the following
five prerequisite courses with a C or better: COMM 203,
ECON 202, KINE 217, ACCT 209,
MGMT 209
- Completion of ENGL
104 & ENGL 210 with a minimum “B/C” grade combination.
- GPR of 2.00 or
higher at TAMU at the end of the semester you are accepted. If you are
accepted and your GPR drops below 2.00 by the end of the semester in
which you are accepted, you will be automatically blocked from
professional phase course work and required to raise your GPR and
reapply for admission.

Submission of an application by the
required deadline.
Applications must be complete and accurate to be considered and must be
signed by the applicant. Incomplete and unsigned applications will be
returned without action. Admission applications will be reviewed
for admission for the semester following the deadline date. Reviews will
occur THREE times per year according to the following deadline dates for
the 2006-07 academic year:
- Spring
Acceptance – October 1, 2007 (5:00 PM CT)
- Summer Acceptance – March
3,
2008 (5:00 PM CT)
- Fall Acceptance-
July 1, 2008 (5:00 PM CT)

- The PROFESSIONAL PHASE WRITTEN ESSAY. All applicants are
required to attach a narrative essay entitled "Why I Should Be Admitted
to the Professional Phase of the Sport Management Program." The essay
must meet the following requirements: Typewritten, double-spaced,
maximum 400 words. Logical, concise statement of your case will be
important. Convey information on involvement in activities outside the
classroom to include type of work experiences, leadership activities, and/or
volunteer experiences undertaken. A brief statement of your career goals
in the area of Sport Management is required. Spelling, grammar,
punctuation and command of writing will be important. Include your
signature and the date at the end of the essay.
- REQUIRED COURSE WORKSHEET (PART A) For each required
degree plan course completed, enter the grade received to calculate
your overall and pre-requisite GPR. Include your grades in courses taken at other
universities. For courses that are in progress, indicate such in the
grade column with the notation of IP. There will be a 5 point
deduction for all IP courses. E-mail worksheet A to SPMTApp@hlkn.tamu.edu
- REQUIRED COURSE WORKSHEET (PART B). Evidence of 30 hours from
Core Curriculum.
- A DEGREE PLAN WORKSHEET, indicating a semester-by-semester plan for
completion of your sport management degree. Show all remaining required
courses.
- A RESUME using the format attached.
(You can use a previously developed resume but please refer to this
example to ensure you are including what the admissions committee needs
to evaluate your work)
- Submit TWO (2) copies of the above documents (6-10)
to the Department of Health and Kinesiology Advising Office in READ 160
before 5 PM CT before the deadline prior to the semester you are seeking admission.
