Undergraduate Program

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Sport Management is awarded by the Department of Health and Kinesiology. The degree program is designed to prepare students for careers in the numerous aspects of the sport industry, including: educational institutions, professional sport teams, non-profit and profit-oriented organizations, government agencies (e.g., city recreation department, state parks), firms providing consulting (e.g., selling sponsorships, legal representation, marketing), US Armed Forces, and sport-governing bodies (e.g., NCAA, UIL). Students in these various sport industry segments can expect to work in positions such as: event management, facility management, ticketing, licensing operations, legal operations and compliance, marketing, public relations, sales, personnel management, operations management, budgeting and accounting, sport communications, tourism, and coaching.

The Sport Management curriculum can be completed through two separate options. The Internship Option requires the completion of a Business Minor and a 13-week internship at the conclusion of the student’s academic preparation to provide on-the-job experience and networking opportunities. The Non-Internship Option allows for students to choose two separate minors to complement their Sport Management core curriculum and thus allows for a greater diversity in preparation for the various segments of the sport industry.
